Show of hands, who’s ready for Thanksgiving? If you’re like us, you’ll be rushing to the grocery store the day before and fighting off the crowds like it’s WWE. To be clear, we’re not about being “perfect”. That’s not possible. You CAN be mindful and intentional about all decisions, anytime and any day. Life will always be happening; holidays, birthdays and everything in between.
Thanksgiving doesn’t have to be the same each year; overstuffed and hanging out in Regretville. The bottom line is, if you feel negative emotions about your approach to eating on Thanksgiving, it’s time to switch it up in favor of peace and mindful consumption.
In today’s post we’re sharing a roundup of healthier Thanksgiving recipes. Why are they healthier? Let us count a few ways:
- Less sugar so your blood sugar doesn’t do a tango, hop on a rollercoaster and then crash. Mood swings to follow.
- Low-inflammation foods. Think: little to no dairy, a known cause of inflammation which is a precursor to all disease.
- Nutritious, cause, empty calories are not your friend. Even when you’re deviating from your normal plan, think about the stuff you’re consuming: is it alive with nutrients or dead and processed?
Alright, you ready? Let’s do this …
“…this quiche with almond crust stood out. The crust is naturally gluten-free, made of almond flour, olive oil, a bit of garlic, and some fresh thyme. And the filling is flavored with shallots, white wine, and Gruyere cheese accompanying the sauteed greens (we used chard instead of mustard greens since we had it on hand).”
“All you need is a head of cauliflower and a food processor. You process it for around a minute and then BAM you’ve got a healthy, veggie-filled substitute for rice.”
Green Beans w/ Caramelized Shallots and Onions
“Add some green to your Thanksgiving menu with this flavorful recipe for tender-crisp green beans tossed with caramelized shallots, toasted almonds and fresh parsley.”
5 Ingredient Slow Cooker Cranberry Sauce
“A simple 5 ingredients slow cooker cranberry sauce recipe that everyone needs in their fall arsenal. Not only is it great for Thanksgiving (and one less thing that takes up precious stovetop space), it’s really just a great sauce to have on hand for everything!”
Harvest Salad w/ Maple Balsamic Dressing
“This Harvest Salad has all the ingredients you’ll want in a Winter kale salad recipe! Packed with chopped kale, roasted squash, pomegranate seeds, toasted pecans and topped with a super easy & delicious Maple Balsamic Dressing for the absolute perfect holiday salad all Fall and Winter Long!”
“Tender-soft roasted sweet potatoes drenched in the creamiest of sauces and baked to bubbly, golden brown perfection.”
“These salty asparagus spears are great for entertaining guests or served as a starter dish at a dinner party. I also like to dip these in soft boiled eggs, instead of toast strips. Make sure to get good quality prosciutto from your local deli, it should be cut paper thin.”
Healthy Holiday Slaw w/ Apples + Pomegranate
“This easy holiday slaw with apples and pomegranate is a bright and cheerful dish that will provide a healthy and fresh contrast to the rest of your meal.”
Pumpkin Pie (Grain Free w/ Gluten Free Flour Crust Option)
“Made with my go-to almond flour crust and a coconut cream based pumpkin custard, this is truly the best Gluten Free Pumpkin Pie.”
“I made four batches of these chocolate chip zucchini bars, playing around with the ingredients until I came up with the perfected recipe that yielded bars with a deliciously soft and gooey blondie texture.”
“Sweet cinnamon apples mixed with buttery crumbles… it is perfect for any time of the year (but especially Fall).”
Cheers to new memories and delicious food to accompany them! What recipe intrigues you the most? Let us know in the comments!
